Adult Ballet (Monday)

Moroni Studio Monday 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

For ages 14+, based on Christensen and Vaganova Ballet traditions and designed for people of all ages to develop strength, flexibility, coordination, grace, as well as overall fitness, working within each individual’s own range of motion and ability level. Barre and Centre exercises improve balance and muscle tone. Some aspects of modern dance will also be incorporated for free movements and combinations. Those with ballet experience will be provided with more advanced challenges, if desired. Ideal for making the transition between inactivity to fitness. This class is being tentatively offered at multiple times and may be merged into a single class depending upon enrollment.

Intro To Dance (ages 5-9)

Moroni Studio Monday 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM

Learning the fundamentals: following directions, alignment and posture, strengthening legs and feet, learning balance, movement and locomotor skills (developing coordination) in combination with free movement and simple story dances, music & spatial awareness. Ballet based without strict technique, an ideal foundation class for progressing into any dance form.

Ballet I/II (ages 10+)

Based on Royal Academy of Dance syllabi that combines ballet technique with free movement and music interpretation, incorporating both barre and floor exercises that develop coordination, strength, flexibility and endurance with poise, grace and innovative classic and character (folk) dance combinations. Those with previous experience will be given more advanced challenges based on individual ability.

Tap/Ballet Combo (ages 9-13)

Tap - Introducing fundamentals of tap dancing through ballet warm ups to develop ankle coordination and rhythmic understanding. Warm up is followed by technical exercises and locomotor movements across the floor that improve skill and aerobic fitness. Combinations of steps, floor patterns, directions and creative elements (including use of arm movements and props) evolve into dances for styles employed in musical theatre to provide a basis for performance ability.

Ballet - Based on Royal Academy of Dance syllabi that combines ballet technique with free movement and music interpretation, incorporating both barre and floor exercises that develop coordination, strength, flexibility and endurance with poise, and grace.

**Please note that this class will be heavier on its tap emphasis.

Adult Dance (ages 14+) - Tap Combo Class

Moroni Studio Tuesday 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

A combination adult dance class (ages 14+) incorporating a variety of styles such as tap, ballet, lyrical dance and choreography, etc.). **This class will be heavily slated towards tap because that has been the most requested style.

Irish Dance (ages 7+, adults welcome)

This class teaches the foundations and basics of Irish step dancing, beginning with proper technique, including alignment, posture, balance, and timing. Soft shoe dancing will be taught first, with the opportunity to move to hard shoe dancing based on progression. Students will learn the first movements of Irish dancing (side sevens, skips, leaps, etc.), which can be combined to create simple reels and jigs, including for figure (group) dances. Care will be taken to build leg strength to avoid injury. This class may be combined or split into 2 separate classes depending on the number of students enrolled and their ages.

Intro to Dance (ages 3-6)

Our youngest dancers first learn to follow instructions as they practice the important foundational beginning ballet techniques (alignment, placement, positions of feet and arms, stretched feet etc.) Then they explore basic tap steps (shuffle, flap, etc.) Finally, a most important element of dance is also included: students learn how to listen to music and be creative and imaginative through experimenting with their own movements, as well as dance stories, games and simple but fun dance combinations.

Lyrical Jazz Combo (ages 12+)

Moroni Studio Thursday 5:15 PM to 6:00 PM

Lyrical jazz technique will focus on building muscle strength, flexibility and coordination in differentiating dance styles and positions.This portion of the class includes warmup and techniques as well as combinations across the floor. Through both dance techniques, students learn the importance of creativity and improvisation, exploring movement and rhythm.

A strong emphasis is placed on preventing injury while challenging the body in new ways.

World Dance I (ages 10+, adults welcome)

In this class we will explore Utah’s rich heritage through learning the dances and cultures of those who immigrated to the United States starting in the mid 1800’s and onward, making their way to the state of Utah from more than 30 countries. We will learn beginning-level recreational folk dances from countries that include the USA, British Isles, Scandinavia, India, and more! These dances will not require previous dance experience and are perfect for anyone who wants to learn more about other cultures, get a good workout, and have lots of fun!

Beginning Clogging (all ages, adults welcome)

Similar to the previous world dance class, in this level we will also explore the heritage of the various people and cultures who immigrated to Utah through learning some simpler dances. Students with some previous movement experience will be able to incorporate intermediate recreational folk dances from all around the world, in addition to learning about folk dance choreography technique. Differences and similarities between choreographed and recreational folk dances will be defined and explored. In addition to dances from the USA, Europe, and Scandinavia, we will also delve into the cultural dances of Asia in reference to the workers who helped bring the railroad to Utah, as well as Scottish dances. While these dances are not difficult, they tend to include more ballet components and therefore previous dance experience is recommended.

Acting & Theatre - A strictly theatre class, incorporating a study of poetry/prose/monologue; silent scenes (mime); as well as scene study/character development. A heavy focus will also be placed on theatre games to develop trust and improvisational skills.

Musical Theatre -Weekly class meets with CTA team teachers for Instruction and Focus on developing the multidisciplinary “Triple Threat” skills of Singing, Acting and Dancing at the same time. Material will include ensemble songs, scene study, character development, chorus, blocking, movement and choreography. Beginners and experienced performers will work side by side with instruction and challenges appropriate to them individually. Enrichment in team building skills and improvisation, mime and monologues through theatre games. Participants will have the option for placement into an end-of-semester showcase with a weekly rehearsal on Wednesdays from 6-7 pm (placement interview and additional fee for participation in showcase).

SHOWCASE OPTION: Placement into this class opens an option to participate in the end of semester showcase. Enroll into the "Showcase Rehearsal" class - a 1 hour rehearsal on Wednesdays at 6 pm.

Sing With Confidence (Tuesday)

This class is geared to singers with more experience (adults with limited or no experience are also welcome) to begin, or continue developing and honing their solo singing voice. Instruction will focus on improving dynamics, posture and presentation, utilizing and improving resonance, refining diction and articulation, with selected individual coaching in a group setting, allowing all participants to learn and benefit from observations, corrections and adjustments. Repertory will include: one class song and 3 individual song selections of different genres, geared to singers taste, range and abilities.

Vocal Performance Workshop (with showcase option)

This workshop format is a shared private voice lesson (class size limited) for those ready to be challenged as a solo vocal performer. Singers prepare material (introducing ‘slate’ name and song) presented for feedback, instruction and coaching in front of a supportive audience. Individual and group coaching will be given to assist the development of your own unique presentation. Vocal coaching based on Common Sense Singing includes: balance of vocal registration, breath support, pure vowels, clear consonants, styling and interpreting your song, techniques and experience that develop confidence in front of an audience, development of repertory and exposure to complex ensemble music to perform in a group.

SHOWCASE OPTION: Participants will have the option for placement into an end-of-semester showcase with a weekly rehearsal on Wednesdays from 6-7 pm (placement interview and additional fee for participation in showcase).

**Prerequisites: placement interviews will be held the week before the first day of class. If it is determined that this class is not a correct fit, the singer will be offered placement in Singing With Confidence (held on Monday evenings and Tuesday afternoons).
